Century Orchestral Series: Ostinato Strings KONTAKT

Century Orchestral Series: Ostinato Strings KONTAKT

Century Ostinato Strings KONTAKT

Century Ostinato Strings was produced by Academy Award, TEC Foundation, G.A.N.G and D3 award-winning Composer Troels Folmann.

The library contains four Ultra Deep-Sampled Ostinato sections for both Violins, Violas, Cellos and Basses. It was designed to cover all types of Ostinato patterns from the slow, gentle to fast and forte. The Ostinatos were recorded both as traditional multi-samples and as unique ostinato-samples. The multi-samples contains three types of Spiccato (Single, Double, Triplet), Marcato etc. The Ostinato-samples were recorded at four different tempos slow, medium, fast and very fast – and at multiple dynamics, which is simply controlled on your modwheel.

Century Ostinato Strings contains over 20.700 Ostinato Samples and 4 Microphone positions, including Mixed, Close/Intimate, DECCA and Far/Wide. This gives you complete control over the room and sound. Whether you need a close, chamber like sound or a more rich and full symphonic experience. The Ostinatos were also recorded with the identical players, conductor and same gorgeous hall used for our Century String and Brass collections.

But most importantly Century Ostinato Strings is easy to use, highly playable and infused with life. It breathes a new soul into string writing and allows for completely realistic String Ostinatos like never before.

Short Note Abundance

Century Ostinato Strings is designed to cover filmic short-notes in any way possible. First we recorded three types of Spiccato (Single, Double-Stroke, Triplets), which allows for more advanced harmonic figures. These were recorded in round-robin fashion too. But even more extensively we recorded four types of Ostinato Patterns from Slow, Medium to Fast and Ultra Fast. The Ostinatos seamlessly adapts to your DAW host-tempo. The Slow Ostinatos are recorded in more flowing fashion – where as Fast Ostinatos ones have a more bouncy/action type of feel. All the Ostinatos were also recorded dynamically – meaning that you can control the velocity dynamics via modwheel. Just play it like a piano and you are set.

Modular Century

Our Century Ostinato Strings were recorded in the same hall as the rest of our Century Series. The same players. The same conductor. The same engineer and microphone positions. All Century libraries are designed as modular libraries. Everything designed to work together. All the Century libraries were recorded in the same hall and with identical microphone setups and core articulations. This way you can build your own modular ensembles by combining both Century Stings, Harps and Century Brass libraries.

4 Microphone Arrays

Century has a Highly customizable sound with 4 arrays of pristine microphone positions offer you any angle you want. Perhaps you just want an easy, “sweet spot” Mix of all our microphones perspectives? Pull in the close microphones to get an ultra tight low end for extremely fast Ostinatos! Maybe you require a 5.1 mix or perhaps a classical mix? Well, Century has both Decca and Wide/Far microphone arrays to help with that. With everything offered in a singular, easy, but advanced environment, instant access to all 4 microphone arrays, and access to all articulations are all but a click away.

Century GUI

Century Ostinato Strings features the familiar Century GUI you all know and love. Designed for a seamless workflow all the articulations can be easily accessed with a few clicks. The empty slots allow you to choose the articulations you need, just double click to access the full list of articulations. Every slot automatically gets assigned to a key-switch (or CC if you prefer), so you can literally create an advanced articulation matrix of up to 10 articulations in just a few seconds. It’s accessible it’s intuitive it’s Century!

Pickup Music Advanced Neo Soul Guitar TUTORIAL

Pickup Music Advanced Neo Soul Guitar TUTORIAL

Unlock new sounds on your guitar with Ashton Sellars. In this Master Class, you’ll learn how to play next-level neo soul and map out your fretboard through a systematic, triad-based approach.

Advanced Neo Soul Guitar
3 little notes – why are triads so important?
While seemingly simple, the humble triad has the power to unlock your entire fretboard. This is true across all styles of music, not just neo soul or jazz.

What you’ll learn
The biggest mistake guitarists make is overlooking the fundamentals. This Master Class breaks down two fundamental concepts – triads and hybrid picking – to give you a rock-solid foundation to build on. You’ll also learn new neo-soul licks, songs, and solos to add to your musical vocabulary.

Ashton’s approach to triads in Part I. of this Master Class is highly methodical and serves as the foundation for his signature sound. In this section, you’ll learn close- and broken-position major triads as well as minor triads.

In Part II, Ashton introduces hybrid picking as it applies to triads, chord scales, arpeggios, and stacked 4ths. This is a versatile technique that will put a ton of new ideas at your fingertips, and Ashton breaks it down in an easily-digestible format.

Once you master those fundamental techniques, it’s time to dive into neo soul. Part III. is your grab bag of 10 quick concepts and licks to add to your playing style. Then, we’ll pause for an interlude lesson on the art of practice and move on to three original SongSquads for your learning pleasure in Part IV. Finally, in Part V, we’ll wrap up with jam tracks that you can get lost in for hours on end.

What’s included:

  • 30 HD video lessons
  • Notation for all exercises
  • Three original pieces to learn
  • A 2,000 word PDF handbook
  • Instruction from a world-class artist
  • Unlimited access to all lessons on pickupmusic.com

Who is this class for?
While the lessons in this class are advanced and best suited for intermediate guitarists, the exercises themselves are simple. This means you don’t need to be an experienced player to benefit from the class.

Tips for learning
As you make your way through this class, keep in mind that technique is only half the battle. To truly master these concepts, you’ll need to devote equal time to developing a feel for them through musical exploration. Thankfully, that’s where the fun kicks in – this class includes professionally-produced jam tracks that you can use to hone concepts or just vibe out on.

We strongly recommend that you spend regular practice time on these concepts as we’ll build on them throughout the class.

Meet your instructor
Ashton is an in-demand, London-based musician and producer known for his mastery of neo soul. Originally from Wellington, New Zealand, Ashton has studied with some of the world’s greatest guitarists in New Zealand and Amsterdam.

In this Master Class, you’ll learn modern legato guitar technique and how to play arpeggios across your fretboard with ease.

Arpeggios for the Modern Guitarist
Join elite guitarist Will Johnson as he walks you through the same exercises, chords, and concepts taught at top-tier, master’s-level jazz programs in NYC.

What you’ll learn
By the end of this class, your arpeggios will be silky smooth and lightning fast!

In Part I, Will breaks down his approach to legato playing with five arpeggio-based exercises that will help you develop smooth picking, left-hand slurs, string skipping, sweep picking, and legato phrasing.

In Part II, you’ll learn how to better visualize your fretboard through positional playing. Here, you’ll use C Dorian to map out your fretboard in four positions that you’ll connect with arpeggios.

Next, Will pulls back the curtain on a key aspect of his sound: chordal modulations. In Part III, you’ll learn how to play Will’s go-to modulations and gain insight into the music theory behind them.

Everything in the previous sections has been building toward Part IV. In this section, you’ll learn how to get that advanced modern jazz sound through all things arpeggio – from simple triads to 4-part chords with metric modulation.

In Part V, it’s time to put everything into context with five Insta-ready SongSquads from Will (with backing tracks included).

Oh yeah, did we mention the bonus lessons? You won’t want to miss them. From Ableton and production lessons to discussions on how to sound jazzy and develop your own sound, there’s a ton of gold at the end of this rainbow!

Pickup Music Guitar For Complete Beginners Vol. 1 TUTORIAL

Pickup Music Guitar For Complete Beginners Vol. 1 TUTORIAL

This step-by-step online class will gently guide you through the fundamentals of guitar playing. By the time you finish, you’ll be able to play any simple pop or rock song and even write your own!

Guitar For Complete Beginners Vol. 1
Join your mentor Jamey Arent as he breaks down everything from simple chords and melodies to rhythm and lead playing.

Do I need prior experience with guitar?
Nope! This class is the best place to start if you’ve never played guitar before. Even if you can already play a little bit, this class is perfect for brushing up on the basics and making sure you’ve got the fundamentals locked down.

What you’ll learn:
With a focus on proper technique and fundamental chords, Jamey breaks down how to establish a solid foundation to build your guitar skills on.

First, we’ll start off nice and easy with a few quick lessons on the best way to sit with, strum, fret, and tune a guitar.

Next up, it’s chord time. G and C major? Piece of cake. Get ready for some sweet melodies after that – you’ll breeze right through them with the C major scale.

Then, it’s time to ramp things up a bit! The following lessons introduce seven new chord shapes and build upon previous lessons to get you playing real chord progressions right away.

Once you have those down, it’s time to cry the blues with three fun blues guitar progressions and an introduction to 7th chords.

Keep an eye out for conceptual interlude lessons throughout, including how to get more out of your chords, how to play percussively, how to separate bass notes from chords, how to practice effectively, and how to use a capo.

Once you make it through all of that, it’s time for your Complete Beginner graduation! We have three original songs from Jamey that we’ll challenge you to learn.

What’s included:

  • 40 step-by-step HD lesson videos
  • PDF class handbook with TAB and chord diagrams
  • Expert instruction by LA pro-guitarist Jamey Arent
  • Unlimited access to all other classes on pickupmusic.com

Who is this class for?
This is an entry-level class for beginners.

The curriculum was crafted by our team of master’s-level and pro touring musicians to give you the best possible beginner’s pathway for learning the guitar.

This class will set you up to advance quickly as a guitarist and avoid the bad habits that slow many beginners down.

Tips for learning
As you begin to learn guitar, it’s important to remember that you’re asking your brain to embark on a journey! You have to form brand-new neural connections and strengthen them over time so that you can play with ease.

Playing a basic G chord might sound simple in theory, but, when you think about it, it’s a complex process to master. You need to give your brain time to commit each small motion to muscle memory – from placing each finger in the right place on the fretboard to strumming the strings correctly – there’s a lot involved.

Basically, The Tortoise and the Hare said it best: slow and steady wins the race. You could click your way through this class in a few hours, but as a complete beginner, the material should last you months.

Don’t bite off more than you can chew, and give yourself time to get acclimated. Sometimes, all you need is a good night’s sleep for a concept to click in your brain.

Meet your instructor
Jamey Arent has a Master’s degree in studio/jazz guitar from USC.

As a sideman, Jamey has performed and recorded with artists like Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Matthew Morrison, B. Slade, Spencer Day, Raquel Rodriguez, and Nigel Hall. Jamey’s guitar playing can also be heard on soundtracks for Netflix, TBS, and Comedy Central shows. He released his debut EP The Back Burner in 2019.

Pickup Music Guitar For Complete Beginners Vol. 2 TUTORIAL

Pickup Music Guitar For Complete Beginners Vol. 2 TUTORIAL

Pickup Music Guitar For Complete Beginners Vol. 2 TUTORIAL

So, you made your way through Guitar for Complete Beginners Vol. 1, and you’re off to a running start. Ready to take your playing to the next level?

Guitar For Complete Beginners Vol. 2
Join your mentor Jamey Arent for the second edition of Guitar For Complete Beginners. This class is simply the best way to learn bar chords (and so much more) online.

Do I need prior experience with guitar to take this class?
Just a little. This class builds on the skills we teach you in Guitar For Complete Beginners Vol. 1. We recommend completing that class first if you’re just getting started (it’s included in our all-access membership).

What you’ll learn
This step-by-step class will teach you must-know techniques for both acoustic and electric guitar including bar chords, lead playing, and easy ways to make your chords more colorful. By the end of the class, you’ll be able to play any song that has bar chords in it and solo over common chord progressions including a 12-bar blues.

In Part I, you’ll learn the chords most commonly used by singer songwriters. These are fun because they’re easy to play and have a full sound. As a real world example, we’ll look at chords used by artists like John Mayer, Fleetwood Mac, and Tom Petty.

Fingerstyle picking is a great technique to learn for when you’re playing alone or accompanying yourself as a singer because it adds a sense of fullness and movement to your chords. In Part II, you’ll learn the basics of fingerstyle picking with fun techniques to spice it up, like arpeggiating your chords, adding an alternating bass line, introducing minor variation, and skipping strings.

In Part III, you’ll learn the dreaded bar chord (pause for dramatic music.) Bar chords are typically a big hurdle for new guitar players, but with our simple, step-by-step approach, you’ll be fretting them with ease in no time!

Once you conquer the bar chord, Jamey will get you started visualizing your fretboard in Part IV. This is an important lesson because it’ll enable you to play in any key and will set you up to learn complex concepts further down the line.

In Part V, you get to start playing guitar solos!!! Isn’t that why we all started playing guitar? Jamey will walk you through the concept of moveable scales and get you started soloing right away with the minor pentatonic and blues scales. With conceptual lessons throughout on how to say something while you’re soloing, this is a game-changing section.

In Part VI, we’ll introduce six must-know chord progressions, then we’ll wrap up by challenging you to learn three original SongSquads by Jamey!

What’s included:

  • 50 step-by-step HD lesson videos
  • PDF class handbook with TAB and chord diagrams
  • Expert instruction by LA pro-guitarist Jamey Arent
  • Unlimited access to all other classes on pickupmusic.com

Who is this class for?
This is an entry-level online class for beginners who can play basic open chords. If you find bar chords challenging or haven’t explored soloing yet, this class is for you.

This class was expertly crafted by our team of master’s-level educators and musicians. We’ll guide you through a series of specific exercises that are designed to help you quickly develop your skills on guitar.

Tips for Learning
As always, learn each concept slowly, and don’t try to learn too much at once!

Complete Beginners Vol. 1, really focused on the nuts and bolts of how to get off the ground floor with guitar. This class is designed so you can start spreading your wings and developing your own style.

There are a lot of foundational techniques you’ll need to work on that won’t sound pretty at first (*cough* bar chords *cough*), but other lessons are designed to spark your passion for practicing. Take Part V, for example. Once you start to get the feel of scale patterns, you can spend endless hours honing your soloing skills (that’s what the greats do.)

Making your practice routine enjoyable is the key to success, so be sure to apply these concepts to your musical areas of interest as much as possible.

Meet your instructor

In Part I, you’ll learn the fundamentals of how to harmonize a melody. Arianna will walk you through how to harmonize with intervals using 3rds, 6ths, and 10ths, every chord in the diatonic scale, and secondary dominant chords.

Next, Ariana will put things in context in Part II. by teaching you her song Corner Store. Then you’ll harmonize it with basic diatonic harmony, secondary dominants and chromatic basslines.

In Part III, we’ll move into gospel harmony by examining the hymn Doxology. After harmonizing the song with I and II chords, Arianna will introduce some more advanced ideas involved in reharmonization. Then, we’ll look at concepts you can use to fill spaces of chord melodies and in outro cadences in Part IV.

But wait there’s more!! In addition to 20 original jazz licks and three SongSquads from Arianna, we’ve included three bonus lessons based on her experience as a professional touring guitarist. There are some real gems in here that you don’t want to miss.

Pickup Music Chords Library TUTORIAL

Pickup Music Chords Library TUTORIAL

Welcome to the Pickup Music Chords Library! In this Master Class, you’ll learn how to play essential chord shapes across the guitar.

Chords Library
This class is much more than just a handy reference. You’ll learn everything from how to play your first chords to how to tweak them according to different genres and players.

What you’ll learn
By the end of this class, you’ll be able to play the chords behind any popular song and most jazz standards. You’ll also be able to compose and arrange your own unique songs.

In Part I, we start with the absolute basics of how to play a chord with a breakdown of essential beginner and intermediate chord shapes. Before moving on, we’ve included two interlude lessons on the numbers system and major key harmony because, while learning chord shapes is an important first step, they won’t do you much good if you don’t when to use them.

Join internationally-acclaimed vocalist Michael Mayo as you sing through essential exercises to quickly train your ear. This Master Class provides you with the exercises and tools you need to develop your ear and unlock a new appreciation for music.

Ear Training
Developing your ear is a fundamental skill that will help you bridge the gap between what you hear and what you play. This Master Class will train you to identify the basic theory behind a song with nothing more than your ears. This is normally one of the first classes music students take in college.

Ear training isn’t something you leave in the practice room! Once you develop this skill, the world of music will open up for you. You’ll recognize chord progressions, intervals, and bass movements in your favorite music. This class provides you with the exact exercises and tools that you need to improve your musical hearing.

What you’ll learn
This Master Class will teach you how to identify and sing basic scales, intervals, triads, and chord progressions using only sound as a reference. This is an incredibly-valuable skill that will enhance your overall musical prowess and professionalism.

In Module 1, you’ll get to know the seven notes of the major scale like the back of your hand.

In Module 2, you’ll learn how to sing and identify diatonic triads through three exercises with included audio practice tracks.

In Module 3, we’ll break out of the key of C major. This is where you’ll learn how to recognize and identify all 12 intervals. We’ll also provide you with a handy list of popular songs you can use to familiarize yourself with each interval.

In Module 4, we’ll put it all together and recap everything you’ve covered. Then, we’ll take things one step further by learning how to sing the major pentatonic scale, bass notes, and improvised melodies.

Each module builds on the last. Throughout the class, Michael will walk you through the exact exercises that he uses to mentor and teach his students. These are the same techniques that are taught at top-tier colleges and conservatories across the US.

Ear Training FAQ
What is ear training?
Ear training is the skill of sonically identifying melodies and harmony. The goal of ear training is to connect what you hear to what you play.

Why learn ear training? Why is it useful?
Ear training is a fundamental skill for all musicians. This is normally one of the first classes music students take in college. Developing your ear will enable you to decipher what’s happening when you hear music by identifying musical elements like pitch, scales, chords, progressions, and intervals in your head.

Do I need perfect pitch to take this class?
Nope! This class will help you develop your relative pitch – a skill that anyone can learn. Michael will guide you through step-by-step exercises that you can build into your daily practice schedule, no perfect pitch required!

What equipment do I need?
Just your voice, but a piano is helpful (and a guitar will work in a pinch).

Why do I need to sing to develop my ear?
This class relies heavily on singing because vocalizing notes, intervals, and melodies is one of the best ways to internalize them. Singing is a widely-accepted practice for developing your ear and is the method used by educators in music programs worldwide. If you’re not a singer, don’t worry. The singing you’ll do in this class is purely an exercise to train your ear.

What if I don’t know how to sing at all? I sound like an angry stray cat when I try to sing.
Don’t worry about how you sound! You don’t need a beautiful voice to benefit from this class. The important thing is that you’re able to accurately reproduce the pitch of a note after hearing it.

If you’re an absolute beginner, you can practice this by playing different notes on your instrument and matching the pitch with your voice. If a note in an exercise feels like it’s out of your range (i.e. too high or low for your voice,) try raising or lowering the note by an octave on your instrument so it’s more comfortable to sing.

How much will I need to practice?
If you’re new to ear training, we recommend regularly practicing this skill at least 15 minutes per day, 5 days a week. If you don’t have that much time, it’s not the end of the world – the most important thing is that you maintain some type of regular practice schedule.

How long will this class take me?
This class will teach you all the exercises you need to know in four modules made up of 20+ minute videos. After that, it’s up to you to practice the exercises. This is an intensive class consisting of material that’s usually taught over multiple semesters in traditional music programs. The material here will take you at least 4-6 weeks to properly master.

Ear training is a transformative skill that will unlock a new appreciation of music for you. Congratulations on taking the first step to learn it. Let’s get started!

Pickup Music Jazz Guitar Chords TUTORIAL

Looking for a quick start in the wonderful world of jazz guitar? You’ve come to the right place.

Jazz Guitar Chords
In this introductory Master Class, Sam Blakelock gives you a crash course in jazz chords on guitar.

What you’ll learn
In this class, we’ll examine jazz chords through the lens of four common chord progressions:

the major II V I
the turnaround
the major chord vamp
the minor II V I
With each chord progression, you’ll learn how to play the individual chords involved as well as how they all fit together. Upon completion of the course, we’ll challenge you to play along with Sam, at-tempo, through all four progressions.

Bonus Content
Your course includes a bonus discussion on Joe Pass – one of the greatest jazz guitarists of the 20th century. You’ll gain valuable insight into Pass’s chordal approach to jazz as well as why he’s considered one of the greats.

Who is this class for?
This class is best suited for beginner & intermediate guitarists looking for a crash course in jazz. If you’re a complete beginner, you may find that learning one or two chord shapes per day gives you plenty to work on. If you’re an intermediate player who’s new to jazz, you may find this class more useful as a reference to add new shapes to your existing chordal vocabulary.

Tips for learning
To get the best results from this class, take your sweet time with each chord progression! We only introduce four of them for a reason. We recommend that you resist the temptation to learn too much at once. If you find yourself feeling frustrated because new certain shapes are difficult to fret or link together, that’s okay! Remember, your brain needs time to commit new chord shapes to muscle memory.
