ADSR Sounds Max for Live Essentials Control Devices TUTORIAL
Size 99 Mb
Max for Live Essentials – Control
The devices within the Max for Live Essentials Pack are incredibly powerful. A lot of these devices offer new approaches to audio processing, device control and melodic and rhythmic generation not available in any other plugin devices.
This course focuses on device control. As such the devices covered; Mono Sequencer; Note Echo; Device Randomizer; Map8; MultiMap; XY Pad; Envelope and Expression Control allow you to generate, modify, control and effect MIDI and Audio data within Ableton Live.
Course Summary
► Mono Sequencer
Mono Sequencer is an analog-inspired step sequencer with independent phases for parameters such as pitch, octave, velocity, repeat, and gate. There are many sequencers out there but this is by far one of the most powerful, creative and intuitive.
► Note Echo
Note Echo is a MIDI echo effect. Similar to an audio echo effect but it processes MIDI note information with all the controls you are used to from your delay effects. We explore some basic examples before moving onto some complex setups using multiple instances in series and in parallel, placing the devices in Effect Racks to produce dynamic and interactive results.
► Device Randomizer part 1
Device Randomizer allows to randomise the parameters of any other device in your Session. Whether applying to create new presets, organic modulation, or using in generative compositions this tool can aid is suggesting sound design possibilities you wouldn’t have thought of, and it can keep doing it over and over again!
► Device Randomizer part 2
Continuing on from the previous video we go deeper into the application of this powerful device. Device Randomizer allows to randomise the parameters of any other device in your Session. Whether applying to create new presets, organic modulation, or using in generative compositions this tool can aid is suggesting sound design possibilities you wouldn’t have thought of, and it can keep doing it over and over again!
► Interaction to the Nth level – Map8, MultiMap, XY
These are essential tools for controlling your studio session and stage performances.
Map8 is a utility Macro device especially useful with Push and other 8 knob controllers. Learn how to control parameters on other tracks (or the same track) without switching track focus on Push, or any 8 channel MIDI controller.
MultiMap is a control Device that allows you to map up to eight parameters anywhere in your Live set and control their values simultaneously, just like having four hands!
XY Pad is a control Device that allows you to map up to two parameters anywhere in your Live set, and control them at the same time by moving the blue circle in a two dimensional space. Anyone familiar with Korg’s Kaoss Pads will know the power this setup can unleash.
► Envelope, Expression Control
Envelope uses an envelope function generator to modulate a single parameter in your Live Set. Now you can apply the power and control of an ADSR envelope to any parameter within Live.
Expression Control is a control device that allows you to pair a MIDI parameter (Velocity, Modwheel, Pitchbend, Aftertouch, and Keytrack) with any parameter in your Live set; then the values of the selected MIDI category are used to control the mapped parameter. This functionality is usually included in high end synthesisers and sound design tools, now you have the same control and can apply it as many times as you want to as many devices as you want for organic interactive control.
► Summing Up / Further resources
We covered a lot in this course, the video is just a summary of what we discussed and some thoughts on where to go next.

Course Summary
► Enhancing playback and performability – Synth & Found Sound Instruments
Going deeper into Sampler’s functions to enhance the material, giving it more life, dynamic and making it more interactive to performer input. The Pitch/Osc, Filter/Global, Modulation, and MIDI tabs will be explored.
► The Modulation Oscillator (Osc)
Sampler features one dedicated modulation oscillator per voice, which can perform frequency or amplitude modulation (FM or AM) on the multisample. This can be used subtlety as in vibrato, or in the extreme ways to add additional harmonics, character, and alter the waveshape of the original material with powerful and dynamic processes.
► The Pitch Envelope
The pitch envelope modulates the pitch of the sample over time, as well as of the Modulation Oscillator, if it is enabled. A pitch envelope is an incredibly powerful feature and is an essential sound design tool every powerful synthesiser is equipped with. We look at basic applications such as pitch bend and move on to more advances processes such as drum sound design and experimental sound transformation.

ValhallaPlate is our algorithmic take on the classic plate reverberation sound. Twelve original algorithms emulate the sound and behavior of real world steel plate reverbs, and take the sound into dimensions that physical plates can’t touch. Now updated to Version 1.5.0!
Product Description
ValhallaPlate realistically models the physics of plate reverbs:
High diffusion, for reverbs that have maximally high echo density.
Frequency dependent decay time, for huge lows and clear highs, under the control of a single Decay parameter.
Dispersion, for creating 3D imaging in the decay. The reverb comes from outside the speakers, and decays into the depths behind the speakers.
ValhallaPlate extends the plate reverb into dimensions that real plates can’t reach:
Variable size, to control how metallic a reverb mode sounds. Small sizes result in more metallic delays, while larger sizes sound clearer.
Lush modulation, that eliminates any metallic artifacts, while retaining the pitch of the input.
Twelve original reverberation algorithms (5 new algorithms added to version 1.5.0):
Four reverb modes (Chrome, Steel, Brass, Cobalt) that emulate “true stereo” plates, with 2 input drivers and 2 output pickups.
Three reverb modes (Adamantium, Titanium, Osmium) that emulate the traditional mono-in, stereo-out plates. These modes have the resonance density found in real plate reverberators.
Five reverb modes (Aluminum, Copper, Unobtanium, Radium, Lithium) that combine the 3D dispersive characteristics of steel plates with the high resonance density found in reverberation chambers.
All of the modes can be run as a mono-in/mono-out, mono-in/stereo-out, or stereo-in/stereo-out plugin.
ValhallaPlate builds upon the Valhalla DSP plugin heritage:
Minimalist, resizable 2D GUI, with self-documenting tool tip area.
A comprehensive preset browser makes saving, recalling and sharing settings easy.
Fully compatible with 32 and 64 bit DAWs (32/64 bit VST for OSX and Windows, 32/64 bit Audio Units for OSX, 32-bit RTAS for OSX and Windows, 64-bit AAX for OSX and Windows).
Low CPU usage! You can use all the instances you need without your computer slowing down.

Valhalla VintageVerb
Listen: Valhalla DSP Has Come Unstuck In Time.
ValhallaVintageVerb is a postmodern reverb plugin, inspired by the classic hardware digital reverbs of the 1970s and 1980s.
New in ValhallaVintageVerb 1.7.1: Two new reverb modes, Chaotic Hall and Chaotic Chamber!
Product Description
17 Reverb Algorithms:
Concert Hall. Based on the hall algorithms of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Huge spatial image, echo density that can be adjusted from very sparse to very dense, and lush chorusing modulation.
Bright Hall. Similar to the Concert Hall algorithm, but with a brighter initial sound, and deeper and lusher modulation.
Plate. Inspired by early 1980s plate algorithms. Highly diffuse, bright initial sound, high echo density, lush chorused modulation.
Room. Emulates the sound of early 1980s room algorithms. Medium diffusion/early echo density, somewhat darker sound, chorused modulation.
Chamber. A transparent and dense algorithm. Highly diffuse, high echo density, less coloration than Plate/Room algorithms, chorused modulation.
Random Space. This generates DEEP and WIDE reverbs, with a slow attack, and more diffusion than the late 1980s algorithms that inspired it. The modulation uses internal delay randomization, to reduce metallic artifacts without the pitch change that can occur in the algorithms with chorused modulation.
Chorus Space. Same as Random Space, but with the delay randomization replaced with lush chorused modulation.
Ambience. Combines time varying randomized early reflections with a full-featured reverb tail, with the balance between early and late reverb controlled by the Attack knob. Useful for adding “air” to drums, vocals, and any place where a reverb should be felt but not heard.
Sanctuary. Inspired by a classic German digital reverberator from the 1970s. Discrete early reflections, a dense late reverb that rapidly builds in echo density, lush detuned modulation. Sanctuary incorporates the bit reduction and floating-point gain control used in the A/D and D/A convertors of the early digital hardware.
Dirty Hall. A fresh look at the Concert Hall algorithm, with the goal being to emulate the strange fixed point and convertor artifacts of early 80s reverb hardware. Lusher and denser than the Concert Hall algorithm, with loads of warmth and grit on tap, for a roughly hewn beauty. Plug in your analog synth and send yourself into retro sci-fi heaven.
