Sound Design
*** Keep in mind, high values of some of the parameters below will heavily tax your CPU. Therefore, some patches may not work well in a fully loaded template. ***
There are 2 pages: ENGINE and FX.
From the ENGINE page, chose your sound sample from 25 categories in the pull down menus at the top. The sound sample is displayed in the waveform window at the top.
AUTO MAP forces the sample to conform to A440 on your keyboard. When off, the sample plays as is at Middle C.
POSITION sets the playhead at the desired starting point in the sound sample when you press a key.
SMOOTH adjusts the position of the playhead more smoothly.
The VOLUME controls the volume of the grain. Various settings can lead to a wide range of output levels.
The MOTION control moves the grains. It determines how much movement occurs (forward or backward) from the starting POSITION. Lower values focus on a smaller area of the sound sample delivering a more consistent texture. +100% is real time playback.
DENSITY determines how many grains of the sample are played per second. Higher values render a more smooth a full sound. *Higher DENSITY values also increase CPU usage.
RAND DENSITY shuffles and randomizes the timing of each grain based on the DENSITY setting. Think of it as unquantizing the playback of the grains to a more humanized playback. Higher values prevent phasing and comb filtering.
Click TEMPO SYNC to rhythmically sync to your DAW. The DENSITY now adjusts the number of grains per bar. For the tempo sync patches to work in Kontakt standalone, the transport needs to be running for the live quantize to work:
The ATTACK and DECAY knobs adjust the attack and decay volume envelope of each grain. Higher values sound more smooth. You can automatically set these values by pressing AUTO above the ATTACK knob. The Engine will set these values based on the DENSITY value to provide a 100% overlap of the grains for a smooth sound. While TEMPO SYNC is on, AUTO will recalculate the number of miliseconds for the ATTACK and DECAY to provide a 100% overlap. While AUTO is selected, you can increase or decrease the overlap based on percentage. *Higher DENSITY and ATTACK and DECAY values will increase CPU usage. If you want more thickness, keep them moderate and slightly increase PITCH and WIDTH.
PITCH varies the pitch of each grain either randomly (RAND), or will set the pitch of each grain from random points from around the playhead (DRIFT) and vary it a few cents from the previous grain. Higher values give a greater chorusing effect. You can multiply this from 100 cents to one octave by using x12.
JITTER determines how far the grain is generated from the playhead either randomly (RAND), or wandering around within the range (DRIFT). You can increase this by x100 for larger samples. Like MOTION, lower values focus on a smaller area of the sound sample delivering a more consistent texture. RAND – Higher values pull from more of the sound sample giving a wider variety of texture. DRIFT – higher values give each individual key a different texture.
WIDTH randomly pans each grain to increase stereo width. HQ mode uses Kontakt’s surround panner (uses slightly more CPU).
FADE IN and FADE OUT give the grains a crescendo and decrescendo effect by individually altering the volume and filtering of each grain. This can be used to give each keypress a longer attack or release.
*** PRO USER HACK: Drag your own WAV files into the main window and have fun!
Make sure the WAV file is the same sample rate as your session.
FX Page
The FX Page allows you to add 8 consecutive effects in series, from left to right. You may bypass any one of them without actually removing it and losing your settings by pressing the red B. To toggle bypass of the whole FX chain, option click (alt on PC) the bypass button. You may also COPY and PASTE from one slot to another. REMOVE ALL FX does just that. It clears all FX slots. To clear only one slot, click on the effects pull down menu and select – EMPTY -.

Samplecraze Using Modulation with a 2 Band Filter – FabFilter Simplon TUTORIAL
Using Modulation with a 2 Band Filter – FabFilter Simplon is a video tutorial that explains how to use modulators to affect the filter cut-off of the FabFilter Simplon filter plugin.
Multiband filters afford the user extensive sound design possibilities. However, many producers are unaware of the power of using analogue filters in series and parallel to create new textures from existing audio. But to get to grips with using multimode filters we need to take a little journey into understanding what filters are and how they work.
Filters
A filter allows you to remove unwanted frequencies and also allows you to boost certain frequencies. Which frequencies are removed and which frequencies are left depends on the type of filter you use.
Cut-off frequency This is the point (frequency) at which the filter begins to filter (block or cut out). The filter will lower the volume of the frequencies above or below the cut-off frequency depending on the type of filter used.
This ‘lowering of the volume of the frequencies,’ is called Attenuation. In the case of a low pass filter, the frequencies above the cut off are attenuated. In the case of a high pass filter, the frequencies below the cut off are attenuated. Put simply: in the case of a low pass filter, we are trying to block the (higher) frequencies above a certain point and allow the lower frequencies through. In the case of a high pass filter, the opposite is true. We try to cut out or block frequencies below a certain point and allow the higher frequencies through.
Analogues use circuitry and for that reason alone, it takes time for the filter to attenuate frequencies, in proportion to the distance from the cut-off point. Today’s technology allows for instant cut-off as the filter attenuation is determined by algorithms as opposed to circuits. That is why the filters off an Arp or Oscar etc, are so much more expressive and warm as they rely completely on the resistors and capacitors to, first warm up, then to work but in a gradual mode(gradual meaning sloped or curved as opposed to instant). Depending on how well a filter attenuates or the way it attenuates gives us an idea of the type of sound we will achieve with an analogue filter. Slope/Gradient
The speed at which the filter attenuates is called the slope or gradient. Another point to raise now is that you will often see values on the filter knobs on analogue synthesizers that have 12 dB or 24 dB per octave. That basically means that each time the frequency doubles, the filter attenuates by 12 dB or 24 dB everything at that frequency. These are also known as 2 pole or 4 pole filters, each pole represents 6 dB of attenuation. This is how analogue circuits were built, the number of circuits being used by the filter to perform the task at hand.
Resonance Most synthesizer manufacturers, and in the case of most analogue synthesizers, the term resonance is used most commonly. Other manufacturers of synthesizers, or software synthesizers, might call it emphasis or Q.
Boosting the narrow band of frequencies at the cut-off point is called resonance. If you were to boost the resonance to the maximum, then the filter will begin to self oscillate. This means that it will generate an audible sine wave, more like whistling, even when receiving no input signal.Multimode Filters
Multimode Filters
Now that we know how a single filter works we can move onto using two filters in series and in parallel. Multimode simply refers to the number of filters available in the filter unit. The idea is to have one filter’s response shape one part of the sound and the other filter’s response to shape the other part of the sound. Playing the filters in series creates a completely different texture to using them in parallel.
In the Using Modulation with a 2 Band Filter – FabFilter Simplon video I explain how to use two filters in series and in parallel. I make sure to explain every feature of the filter unit and how best to use them to achieve different results. I use a drum beat as the audio example and show you in detail how to completely change its behaviour and texture just by using these wonderful analogue filters.

Uplifting Music Studio Indie Rock Vocal Melodies WAV
The feature of this library is the high flexibility of using any vocal phrase, as well as the ability to mix it with other phrases regardless of the tempo and the key of your project. More than that, using any MIDI keyboard, you can instantly switch to any sung syllable. Additional Oneshot syllables located in a separate area on the keyboard make it possible to create an almost unlimited number of new musical phrases.
To create this library we used a multi-hour studio session of three vocalists recorded with the help of Double Track technology in all tones and combined with each other using careful editing. Thus, the effect of a full-fledged six-voice chorus is achieved, sounding without any use of computer technology. It is also worth noting that in addition to the tube preamp, no processing was used all the way up to the final signal. This was done not to introduce additional transformations, but to allow the user to process the sound of each track at his option.
