Vintage Mu Compressor
AR-1 is a variable-mu tube compressor whose roots are in the raucous sound of the rockin’ American 50’s, yet it enjoys a posh, tea-sipping British image thanks to its use at Abbey Road Studios in late 60’s, notably on the later Beatles and earlier Pink Floyd records. Kush painstakingly captured the sweet breakup of AR-1’s beefy tubes being driven into the dirt, then added more than a half dozen significant UI and functional enhancements. The resulting emulation is every bit as chunky as the original, and 10x more flexible.
For starters, you get to see the actual values of the controls (!!!). The release is fully variable (as opposed to stepped) and both attack & release can be set significantly faster than the original hardware, allowing for a much wider range of compressive ‘voices’ and textures.
But the real magic of AR-1 lies under the hood, with new algorithms that step Kush’s digital compressor technology forward. One of the most common complaints about plugin compressors (and digital sounds in general) is that they’re “too fast”. Even when a plugin’s attack time measures identical to the hardware, it generally sounds markedly different, resulting in transients that are excessively bright while lacking in low end impact.
Kush has addressed this by using our most sensitive measuring equipment — UBK’s ears — to obsessively tune not just the speed, but also the taper of the attack and release. As a result, AR-1 is a gentle beast that’s still capable of cooking a sound to a deliciously charred crisp. ‘Warm’ and ‘Smooth’ – arguably the most overused marketing terms in the audio world – really do apply. So be adventurous, and see where she’ll take you!
After 9 years in the plugin game, Kush can finally say without exaggeration that, at least for one particular flavor of vintage compressors that clip beautifully, we have completely closed the Analog/Digital gap. SILIKA is not ‘close’, it’s not ‘different but just as good’. It’s ‘Sonically Identical’ to the types of hardware it’s modeled after.
When you drive this plugin’s input, everything melts deliciously. In particular, the high frequencies lay back and spread out without getting edgy, or bright, or even the least bit ‘zingy’. It may get too grindy, but it won’t hurt your ears. Think Led Zeppelin IV’s hazy grunge, and you’ll start to get the idea.
SILIKA owes its killer sound to an extraordinarily complex harmonic distortion generator, but operationally it’s a relatively simple compressor with a familiar feature set. All of its distortions are controlled with the Input knob, which can be switched and blended to taste. The resulting signal then gets passed to a compressor/limiter with 4 available ratios, standard Attack/Release/Threshold/Mix controls, and sidechain filtering options which, while simple, allow for a dramatic reshaping of the compressor’s behavior.
It’s a straightforward plugin with an absolutely killer sound, and represents the dawn of a new era for Kush plugins and digital sonics in general.

The Vocal Bundle is a 5 GB collection of meticulously-crafted legato vocals from three different singers.
Our goal with these releases was to produce incredibly smooth, emotive patches that can be used for a wide variety of musical contexts. To achieve this, we recorded all the legato “long style” – a technique that takes far more recording time but ensures a smooth sustain after the legato transitions have sounded.
In addition to tuning, frequency adjustments and extensive balancing, all three libraries went through a rigorous programming period that involved zeroing in on precise start-time values for every legato interval individually; down to millisecond adjustments to find their specific sweet spots. The result: Responsive, emotive and balanced legato patches that transition smoothly throughout the entire range.
Elastik 3, developed in cooperation with zplane.development, is the most powerful sample player that we have ever created. It provides a complete toolkit for modern music producers working with audio loops. Loops can be an essential part of many musicians creative process and, with Elastik, you get a fast, efficient and flexible set of tools.
The Elastik-Engine
The new ReTune tab in the Loopeye editor gives you complete control over the scale and key of any tonal loop and can even work with polyphonic material.
The ReTune algorithm, developed by zplane.development, analyzes polyphonic and monophonic sound material in realtime and transform it to the desired key and scale while retaining high audio quality. Enter custom scales via the matrix or chose from preset scales to adjust any loop to your project. ReTune can also be used as a creative tool for sounddesign with parameters like sensitivity, transients, smoothing and pitch correction as well as a Dry / Wet control.
If you want complete control over the time and pitch stretching process, the Time tab within the Loopeye editor allows you to choose between six different algorithms, from the simple and super efficient PitchSpeed to the high quality ProV3 which gives you the maximum scope for varying pitch and tempo while minimizing audio artifacts. This tab also includes new stretching FX for additional creative options. The engine is also very efficient and CPU-friendly.
In addition to the pitch and tempo manipulation, Elastik’s central Loopeye forms a detailed loop-editing tool. A large number of parameters can be adjusted, including slice-based pitch-shifting, volume and pan, reverse, formant, filter and resample. Elastik even includes a random sound replacement function called INSPIRE: one click on the Inspire button and Elastik will select an alternative loop, providing just that bit of additional inspiration when you need it. All this can be done on the fly and without leaving the Elastik environment. You can define which soundbanks will be used in the Inspire tool with the new Inspire browser.
