Truefire Mimi Fox's My Guitar Heroes TUTORIAL

Truefire Mimi Fox’s My Guitar Heroes TUTORIAL

Every musician has a long list of other musicians, past and present, that have inspired, influenced and helped shape their own sound and musicality. It’s the natural evolution of music. We asked Mimi Fox to pass on to you some of the key learnings that were passed on from her Guitar Heroes.

”Wes Montgomery, John Coltrane, Pat Martino, Charlie Parker, Joe Pass, and Antonio Carlos Jobim are just a few of the players that have all greatly influenced my own sound as I’m sure they’ve influenced many other players.”

As you work through the course, Mimi will show you a few of the techniques and approaches that she picked up from each one of the artists and then you’ll apply those techniques and approaches, over backing tracks, in a series of soloing performance studies.

”One of the things I absolutely love about Wes’ sound was the way he used compound arpeggio phrases, so we’ll explore that together. In the first series of lessons.

Next we’ll examine John Coltrane’s signature use of 1,2,3,5 cell patterns and his deep, emotional connection to his music, which is one of the things that greatly impacted my approach to improvisation.

We’ll look at chromaticism and some of the ways that my guitar hero Pat Martino uses it in his own solos and improvisations. Charlie “Bird” Parker’s blazingly fast, virtuosic sax lines serve as an inspiration for anyone who loves bebop.

The purity and versatility of Joe Pass’ sound makes him one of the greatest guitar players of all time, and he’s certainly been a very big influence on me. And last but not least, we’ll take a look at the legendary Bossa Nova and Brazilian music composer and guitarist, Antonio Carlos Jobim.”

In this course, Mimi will first introduce her heroes to you and describe why she found them so influential. After each discussion, Mimi will then present a performance study illustrating those influences in a musical context, over a backing track. A breakdown follows every performance and Mimi will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches in play.

You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson. You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are included to work with on your own as well.

Truefire Ted Ludwig's 30 Jazz 2-5-1 Licks You MUST Know TUTORIAL

Truefire Ted Ludwig’s 30 Jazz 2-5-1 Licks You MUST Know TUTORIAL

The most commonly encountered chord progression across the entire jazz standard songbook is the 2-5-1 in both major and minor keys. The broader your vocabulary of 2-5-1 lines, the more creative you can be with your solos. And once you understand how to craft your own 2-5-1 lines, you can take your improvisational skills to a whole new level.

In this collection of 30 Jazz 2-5-1 lines from Ted Ludwig, you’ll not only expand your 2-5-1 vocabulary, you’ll also learn how to construct your own lines using a variety of harmonic approaches.

”I’ll demonstrate each one over a backing track for musical context. You can practice by playing along with me and then playing over the backing track by yourself.

I will also describe how each line was constructed using approaches like altered scales, sub-dominant minors, tritone subs, pentatonic shifts, triad pairs, and other approaches so that you can create your own 2-5-1 lines on the fly when improvising.”

You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the playing examples and performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson.

You can also loop or slow down any of the videos to work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are also included as well.

Grab your guitar, and let’s comp with Ted Ludwig!

Truefire Tom Dempsey's Practice Sessions: Jazz Melodic Approaches TUTORIAL

Truefire Tom Dempsey’s Practice Sessions: Jazz Melodic Approaches TUTORIAL

Melody is king in Jazz music, perhaps even more so than in any other style. Students of jazz guitar frequently find themselves overwhelmed by scales, arpeggios and theory, which can be a barrier to getting to the sound and feel of jazz. Having a solid grasp on melodic devices, fretboard layout, and understanding how to navigate jazz harmony is the key to improvising fluidly and truly bringing your jazz solos to life.

In this hands-on Practice Sessions edition from Tom Dempsey, you’ll take your soloing and improvisational skills to the next level by digging deep into 8 key Jazz Melodic Approaches that Tom considers his own most impactful approaches.

”In this hands-on format, we’ll build your melodic sensibilities across 8 powerful interactive practice sessions, each of which spotlights a different approach or creative application for improvising melodically.

Each session begins with a quick breakdown of the melodic concept and then I’ll perform a demo with a rhythm section for musical context. We’ll cap off each session trading back and forth with the rhythm section as I guide you through the core workouts and some expanded applications.

We’ll work on infusing blues into your jazz lines, arpeggiated melodies, transferring ideas across the neck, motivic development, tritone subs, enclosures and many other creative approaches.”

Working regularly with these 8 “practice sessions” is really going to help you hone your melodic approach, so grab your guitar, and let’s go!

What makes this format really special is how you’ll get these approaches firmly under your fingers — you’ll practice each of the 8 concepts together with Tom, in a series of interactive practice sessions.

Tom will kick off each study with a breakdown of the key concept, technique, or underlying approach and then he’ll perform the approach over a backing track to give you a feel for how it sits in the rhythm section.

You’ll cap off each soloing study together with a hands-on practice session. Tom will roll the track and you’ll trade back and forth as he guides you through the core examples followed by several variations and embellishments. Working regularly with these “practice sessions” is the key to having command of all 8 Jazz Melodic Approaches.

Every musician has a long list of other musicians, past and present, that have inspired, influenced and helped shape their own sound and musicality. It’s the natural evolution of music. We asked Andy Aledort to pass on to you some of the key learnings that were passed on to him from his own Guitar Heroes.

”BB King, Freddie King, Albert King, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Duane Allman are just a few of the players that greatly influenced my sound and I’m certain they’ve also influenced many others.”

As you work through the course, Andy will show you a few of the techniques and approaches that he picked up from each one of the artists and then you’ll apply those techniques and stylings, over backing tracks, in a series of soloing performance studies.

”BB King is to my mind the single most influential electric blues player of all time. I’ll show you some of the ways he influenced my own blues playing and I suspect, many others.

Next up, a force of nature as a singer and a guitar player unlike any other, Freddie King. We’ll examine some of his signature influences. Of all the blues guitar greats, Albert King has the most singularly unique style and sound of any of them. We’ll play in his style as well.

Jimi Hendrix is my favorite musician that ever lived. He completely changed the nature of the electric guitar in EVERY way imaginable. Another giant influence, Eric Clapton spearheaded the British blues movement that ultimately changed the direction of popular music in the late 60’s.
We’ll wrap up the course with Duane Allman — one of the greatest blues rock players ever but he crafted a style and technique of slide guitar that is unparalleled and significantly informed the way I learned to play slide guitar myself.”

In this course, Andy will first introduce her heroes to you and describe why he found them so influential. After each discussion, Andy will then present a performance study illustrating those influences in a musical context, over a backing track. A breakdown follows every performance and Andy will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches in play.

Truefire Vicki Genfan's Body of Rhythm TUTORIAL

Truefire Vicki Genfan’s Body of Rhythm TUTORIAL

Developing solid rhythmic chops and a strong sense of “groove” is not just about working on your timing with a metronome, developing a wide vocabulary of rhythmic patterns, or learning the rhythmic approaches of your favorite players.

Of course these are all really important elements to focus on, but it’s really “groove” that gets toes tapping and bodies moving. Vicki Genfan’s Body of Rhythm masterclass introduces you to an approach she calls ‘body centered rhythm’ — the catalyst that takes your rhythm guitar craft to the next level.

”Without involving their body in the process and practice of rhythm, players are neglecting one of the most important elements of groove.

I’ll show you a variety of tools, rhythmic approaches and effective ways to practice them to become more fluid and expressive rhythmically.

You’ll be able to easily and quickly apply these tools and approaches when learning a new strumming pattern, nailing a melody, soloing and improvising, or just keeping good time with other musicians.

No matter what level of guitar playing you’re at, you’ll benefit from the unique focus on ‘body centered rhythm’ throughout the course.”

In Section 1, Vicki reviews important concepts such as rhythm, beat, pulse and feel, as well as define the basics of reading rhythm: note values, rests, ties, dotted notes, slurs and bends.

In Section 2, Vicki has you focus on ‘body centered rhythm’. She’ll show you how to find your pulse, an exercise that will help you develop a new sense of flow and profoundly deepen your listening skills.

In Section 3, you’ll dive into a series of practice sessions putting ‘body centered rhythm’ principles to work in a musical context. These carefully crafted exercises will hone your coordination skills and help you vastly improve your ability to play more complex rhythms by integrating different combinations of strumming, clapping, stepping and speaking.

Lastly, Vicki will show you to apply everything covered in the course across 10 playalong practice sessions featuring 10 versatile strumming patterns that you can use in countless songs.

Vicki will also share her thoughts on how you can continue using this course as a regular part of your practice routine, how to track your progress, and a fun way to play with some of the ‘rhythm syllables’ that you’ve learned to create unique rhythm patterns.

Vicki will explain and demonstrate all of the key concepts and approaches along the way. You’ll get standard notation and tabs for all of the performance studies. Plus, you’ll be able to use TrueFire’s learning tools to sync the tab and notation to the video lesson.

You can also loop or slow down the videos so that you can work with the lessons at your own pace. All of the backing tracks are also included to work with on your own.

Premiere Pro Introductory Course TUTORIAL

Premiere Pro Introductory Course TUTORIAL

Premiere Pro Introductory Course TUTORIAL

Premiere Pro is found in most of the production facilities around the world so learning Premiere means there are many possibilities for employment. The program has really come into its own over the last decade. For example, David Fincher’s Gone Girl was the first major Hollywood production cut entirely on Premiere Pro. Although Premiere is a professional program, there are plenty of people learning Premiere who want to do their own projects. Premiere is perfect for professional settings as well as the home studio.

For those who are completely new to Premiere Pro and editing programs, and those wishing to take Premiere to a professional level, this course works its way through the fundamentals from the ground up and thoroughly covers the essentials, including: importing footage, organizing folders, creating sequences, trimming and rearranging footage, workflow considerations, transitions, effects, audio, Lumetri Scopes, exporting and archiving your project.

We begin with opening the program and learn how to generate a new project. We briefly discuss how to organize hardware like hard drives; is it better to have all internal drives? Or external drives? I break down what works well for most situations. What’s the difference between the CPU (Computer Processing Unit) and GPU (Graphics Processing Unit)? And why it’s important to know how each of them comes into play for editing software programs like Premiere Pro.

From there we move through the file import process and how to organize footage and assets to remain efficient. And then a tour of the User Interface with a thorough explanation of what the main panels do and what tools/functions are inside them. After we learn how to create a sequence (the footage we place on the timeline to create our project) we learn how to use a few essential tools and techniques to cut, place and rearrange our footage on the timeline within our sequence. We learn to add effects and how to adjust their parameters. We learn the Text Tool and some simple steps to animate the text. We demystify how to adjust audio and audio levels (it’s not difficult). The process of color grading is introduced in the form of learning a few essential tools such as Waveform, Vector and RGB Parade scopes. When the project is finished we learn how to export our sequence, and use a popular codec (mp4) to render out to a finished file to post on well known sites like Youtube. Lastly, we will go over how to Archive your project.

What you’ll learn:

  • This course works its way from the ground up and thoroughly covers the fundamentals each step of the way, from import, to edit and finally to export
  • Learn how to import footage, organize folders and create sequences on the timeline
  • Learn how to trim and rearrange footage on timeline efficiently with a few tools and techniques
  • Learn how to apply effects to files on the timeline, and adjust the parameters of audio and video effects

How To Mix Vocals IN LOGIC PRO X A Beginners Guide to Easily Mixing Hip Hop Vocals TUTORIAL

How To Mix Vocals IN LOGIC PRO X A Beginners Guide to Easily Mixing Hip Hop Vocals TUTORIAL

Ever wonder how artists make their music sound so good? It’s all in the mixing. Even when big musicians are touring on the road and recording in hotel rooms they sound professional because their engineers are so good.

I can’t promise that after this class you’ll sound like Drake. BUT I can teach you the basics so you’re one step closer to getting there. With over 10 years of experience mixing, recording, and writing records I’ve put together the complete beginners guide to mixing rap and hip-hop vocals.

What’s Special About This Course?
I’ve taken my fair share of tutorials and online classes over the years. There are some amazing resources out there. However, research shows that online learning isn’t about watching, it’s about doing.

I’ve put together the stem files for you so that you can follow along and mix with me as we go.

I’ll show you exactly how I approach the project, and also give you complete autonomy to make creative choices throughout the process on your own.

Another special aspect of this course: You’re not alone.

I’ve helped hundreds of students over the years and dedicate time each week to answering questions.

Once you submit a project you can reach out and get support from me personally.

I listen to every student submission.

This is an opportunity to network with like minded individuals and hone your skills, which is a great way to improve quickly and get support in real time. No one learns in a vacuum.

I understand that it takes time, practice, and constructive feedback to continually improve. This isn’t a one and done deal. If you’re serious about stepping up your mixes you’ll need another set of well trained ears to help you get there.

I’m a real living breathing person (for the most part) so if you have questions don’t be afraid to reach out.

So, what’s next?

1) Download the stems for the class project.
2) Open your preferred DAW (I’ll be using Logic here) and import the stems
3) Watch the course and start mixing!

here are so many lessons I picked up over the years and through my time behind the scenes in the music industry that have helped me immensely and I’ll share them with you throughout these courses.

One of the biggest gems I’ve learned is this: Do it yourself.

No one is going to care about your music as much as you do. If you have the DRIVE to succeed and the HUNGER to develop your craft you’ll be able to make it. This is the era of no gatekeepers. No excuses.

So what are you waiting for?

Mixing is a skill that is incredibly marketable and distinguishes between an amateur and a professional level sound.

I’m not saying you’ll become a rockstar overnight. But with what I teach you in this course and the persistence to apply it you’ll be that much closer.
