They were never perfect—far from it, actually.
And that’s exactly what made them special.
This is my tribute to the sound that shaped my childhood. A place where my love for music was formed through imperfections and happy accidents—watching level meters dance as I sang into an old microphone, red peaks glowing, analog saturation bending the sound.

Tape emulation
Cassette has been carefully modeled through extensive analysis of real recordings captured on physical tape. The result is an authentic recreation of the sound and behavior of classic tape systems.
Randomness under control
Magnetic tape is never sterile. It adds its own personality to anything recorded through it. Subtle, nonlinear variations introduce unpredictability—bringing life, movement, and realism to the sound.

What’s your type?
We’ve modeled four classic cassette tape types, each with its own sonic signature:
Type I – The original standard and most widely compatible format. Built with ferric oxide (Fe₂O₃), it first appeared in the 1960s.
Type II – Introduced in the early 1970s using chromium dioxide (CrO₂), offering a clear improvement in high-frequency response and clarity.
Type III – A short-lived ferro-chrome formulation from the mid-70s to early 80s, rarely used during the format’s peak era.
Type IV – Metal tape, arriving in the late 1970s, known for stronger low-end and extended, more powerful highs.
About magnetic tape
Magnetic tape is far from a neutral medium—it imparts a distinct sonic signature to anything recorded on it. This includes frequency shaping, saturation that depends on frequency, high-frequency compression, tape hiss, asperity noise, and more.
Playback systems add their own character as well: wow and flutter, subtle pitch instability, high-frequency loss, crosstalk, stereo imbalance, and other nonlinear behaviors.
All of these imperfections and unpredictable variations have been carefully modeled in Cassette.
