Groove3 HALion 7 Explained [TUTORIAL]
Steinberg’s HALion 7 is an impressive tool to say the least, but with so many options and features, it can be a bit intimidating at first. That’s where this HALion video course comes in. Veteran Groove3 instructor Eli Krantzberg takes you on a detailed tour of HALion 7, touching on all you need to get started using this instrument quickly and with confidence. Whether it’s simply choosing from preset sounds and making minor tweaks, going deeper and adjusting the filter, LFO, and envelopes, or building up your own sounds from scratch, it’s all covered here. Soon, HALion 7 will become a familiar companion, capable of producing the sounds you require with efficiency and effectiveness. We have designed these HALion 7 videos specifically for new HALion 7 users.
Eli kicks off the course with a brief overview of the interface, so you can get your bearings before we dive in. Then, as Eli explains the differences between programs, layers, multi-programs, and so on, you’ll learn the basics of loading sounds and become familiar with the Media Bay. He also covers the seven different types of zones used in HALion 7.
Next, explore the Sound Editor, where you’ll have access to global parameters that will affect an entire program or layer, and learn how to create and manage programs, layers, and zones in the Program Tree. You’ll then learn how to adjust the voices for each zone, including start/release behavior, glide, unison, and polyphony.
There’s way more to come as well, such as pitch control (tuning, pitch bend range, pitch modulation), FM Oscillator/Spectral, Oscillator/Grain, Oscillator (overview of main and specialty parameters), filter section, amplifier section (zone-based levels and panning, setting up aux send for parallel processing, etc.), envelopes (creating custom multi-stage envelopes, etc.), LFO section, step modulator (additional modulation possibilities for the filter and other elements), routing and audio architecture, macros (controlling parameters remotely from a separate window or MIDI controller), and more!
If you can dream it, you can probably make it happen in HALion, and this video course is the quickest way to bridge the gap from inspiration to realization. From preset scrolling to in-depth sound design from the ground up, there’s plenty in here for everyone.
