Music Protest Audio Mixing for Non-Pros Using iZotope Neutron TUTORIAL
This course is ideal for anyone who needs to produce high-quality audio, but doesn’t have high-end audio engineering experience. We’ll show how iZotope’s Neutron 3 software enables you to automatically mix a complex audio track in a snap! Neutron uses machine learning to identify recordings and figure out how they should be mixed together.
In short, Neutron functions as your own personal software mixing engineer. This course will explain and demonstrate how Neutron can help you mix better music – and even learn from it and become a better engineer in the process!
Project Description
After covering the mix assistant, relay, the visual mixer and choosing a focus we need to actually complete a mix to really understand how to use Neutron properly. The goal of this course is to help you use Neutron to make better mixes and here’s a class project I’d recommend every student complete!
Contains:
First, load up a project in your favorite DAW (Cubase, Ableton, ProTools, etc.). You can download example stems along with this course if you’d like.
Set up Relay on each track and rename them.
Run the Mix Assistant to create a mix (setting a focus)
Update/modify the mix with Visual Mixer
Export and share your mix here on Skillshare and get feedback from us 🙂
If questions come up that the course doesn’t address, please reach out to me directly or post a question on the discussion board.
Giving Voice to Children’s Artistry: A Guide for Music Teachers & Choral Conductors PDF
This book presents a comprehensive view of children’s musical artistry and how to develop it in both the music classroom and children’s chorus. Presenting the musical mind as the gateway to children’s artistry, and addressing the power of movement in its embodiment and advancement, author Mary Ellen Pinzino shows how song–rhythm, melody, and text, independently and together–influence children’s developing artistry musically, expressively, and vocally at every level. Accordingly, she also offers a multitude of specific songs that inspire children’s artistry, all in various tonalities and meters and on a continuum of increasing difficulty.
Keeping the need for practical application in mind, Pinzino offers materials for implementation with children from kindergarten through seventh grade, as well as guidance for professional development. Content can be applied alongside any pedagogical methodology, as well as with older singers in the process of developing their own artistry. In short, this book makes the intangibles of children’s artistry more tangible. It enables music teachers and choral conductors to draw artistry out of every child and draw every child into the choral art. It summons music teachers and choral conductors to bring artistry to the forefront of every music class and choral rehearsal–and to the forefront of the field of music education as a whole.

ProducerTech Beginner’s Guide to Song Arranging TUTORIAL
Making loops and jamming with musical ideas, although fun, can be a trap we get stuck in all too often, sometimes finding it hard to get out of ‘loop mode’ and start putting an actual track together. On this course, you’ll be provided with the knowledge required to gain a good understanding of how music is arranged, from how and why song sections are structured, to specific techniques for improving the arrangement.
The course begins with a detailed look at 2 successful tracks in varying styles, one a vocal-based pop track and the other a Tech House banger! The arrangements are completely broken down and scrutinised, then a summary of the main similarities and differences is given, with an explanation of why each song is arranged the way it is.
The subsequent modules then show the main stages of building up an arrangement, starting with the beats and creating drum fills, then introducing melodic parts and discussing the hierarchy and placement of each. Introduction, breakdown and drop sections are then laid out, showing the main concepts behind a breakdown and different methods for achieving it. Sections are then bolstered with additional layers to support the melodies and create more engagement, including vocal textures and chords.
The latter part of the course focuses heavily on FX, starting with samples that are used to enhance definition and flow, and then moving on to devices like reverb and delay, used to add character and depth, as well as improve transitions. More advanced techniques like automation and send effects are covered that, although technically more challenging, are explained slowly and clearly so that even those with little experience should be able to follow along without issues. There is also some focus on tonality and tuning, working out the key of parts and the track, and exploring other keys to move to temporarily during the arrangement.
By the end of the course, students should have a good idea of the necessary considerations and different approaches to arranging a track, ultimately helping construct clear goals to work to when making music. Signing up grants immediate access to almost 3 hours of tutorials, plus supporting materials like written guides and software projects, providing all the teachings and support needed to start arranging quality music of your own.
Course Breakdown
Intro
A short introduction to the course and overview of the lessons.
Module 1 – Track Analysis and Comparison
In this first module, Rob provides a detailed analysis of two electronic tracks in differing styles, one a vocal-based pop track and the other a Tech House slammer! After giving an explanation of how each arrangement is constructed, there is a summary of the main similarities and differences.
Module 2 – Arrangement Techniques 1 – Drums, Intro and Breakdown
To start the arrangement, a 16-bar drum break is made, complete with the necessary fills and high frequency percussion layers. The other sounds are then added, reviewed and positioned along the timeline to form an introduction, first breakdown and drop.
Lesson 1 – Drum Fills
Lesson 2 – Making an Intro and First Breakdown
Module 3 – Arrangement Techniques 2 – FX Sounds and Processing
The arrangement is embellished with FX sounds like risers and impacts, some of which are found in Loopcloud and others made using sounds in the project. Audio effects like reverbs, delays and filters are then applied to parts, with their parameters automated, to not only add extra width and depth but also create contrasts between sections and help with the flow of energy through the track.
Lesson 1 – Adding FX Sounds and Devices
Lesson 2 – Automating Effects
Module 4 – Arrangement Techniques 3 – Additional Song Sections & Composition
After some additional sounds are added to the first breakdown and drop, ensuring the tuning is correct first, some new breakdown ideas are implemented. Firstly, a breakdown that introduces a new synth melody and secondly, a bridge that modulates temporarily to a new key.
A collection of my favorite sounds i love using for my own samples, created with various synthesizers (moog grandmother & matriarch, prophet rev2, OP-1 & udo super 6), different real instruments such as guitars (electric + acoustic), mandolin, kalimba & violin and digital + real soundsources. all the sounds are processed with guitar pedals like thermae by chase bliss audio, strymon deco, microcosm, etc. + various high quality plugins. i put a lot of work & thoughts into this kit to make it a ‚all you need‘ pack when it comes to making samples in a creative way.
since colors is my first one-shot kit, i tried to come up with some unique & innovative ideas. texturized pads, earcandy synths, soundbites (microloops) & fx from another dimension make this kit something truly special.

A Beginner’s Guide to Modular Synthesizers TUTORIAL
A modular synth is one of the most interesting instruments out there. People who have never worked with one of these in depth, might easily get confused by all the cables and blinking lights.
However, it’s also one of the most versatile and useful instruments out there! There is the right module for everything. You can create sirens, atmospheric clouds of sound, entire electronic beats or you can even use the whole box as a really sophisticated effects ‘pedal’ for your guitar.
Really, this thing offers truly endless possibilities.
Most of the times, playing a modular synth turns into learning how to tame it into your musical context.
What You’ll Learn
This course will provide a very practical introduction to create some basic understanding and most importantly interest into modular synthesis. My aim is to lower the activation energy necessary to dive into this topic.
We’ll cover:
The basic idea of modular synthesizers
The stream of information running from module to module
Creation of bass line, drum beat and an arpeggiated lead synth voice
Basic module categories including oscillators, VCAs, sequencers, envelope generators and more
Arranging everything into a cool electronic beat to impress your audience
What You’ll Do
In the projects section, I would ask you to create a piece of music on your own! Ideally, you take your own modular synth or borrow one. Or instead, you can also take a software based modular synth for that.
Upload a sample of your bass line, lead line, drum beat or entire song in the projects section and I will be happy to comment and discuss your individual steps towards that
Creating a piece of music with your own hardware or software based modular synthesizer.
Assignment
Activate your modular synthesizer system. You can either take your own if you’ve already got one, step inside your well-assorted music store of trust with a small recorder or you can even use a software based modular synth for that.
Then, start applying what you’ve just learnt to create for example:
All of our presets and samples are 100% royalty-free.
What version of Serum or Sylenth1 do I need to use your presets?
The minimum version number of each plug-in that we recommend can be found on our individual product pages. That version is approved by us since it’s the one we used to create and save the presets. Of course, if you have a newer version than the one we recommend, you won’t have any trouble using our presets either. We encourage you to keep your plug-ins up-to-date to ensure you have the latest features and bug fixes, just like we do.
‘Introspective Downtempo’ by Thick Sounds presents an impressive collection of laid-back sounds for your most relaxed productions.
